Celebrating Randy Plummer: Resilience, Rhythm, and a Remarkable Journey
On February 11, 2025, Walk and Roll Live welcomed Randy Plummer to share his powerful story of perseverance after facing long-term disability following his COVID-19 vaccination. His journey has been one of unwavering strength, deep cultural connection, and a passionate pursuit of music. Today, we celebrate an incredible milestone in Randy’s life.
Randy recently graduated cum laude from UC Riverside, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Ethnomusicology: Music and Culture. We were honored to be there in person—Doug Vincent from Walk and Roll Live, Cotie Williams, and Lauren Burke Hodge from PossAbilities—to witness this proud moment. The evening was filled with emotion, culture, and community, reflecting both Randy’s academic journey and his Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux and Turtle Mountain Cree, Band of the Chippewa heritage. His cultural identity was beautifully honored throughout the ceremony.
Randy’s next chapter is just beginning. He plans to continue his academic career by pursuing a master’s degree at California Baptist University, with his sights set on eventually earning a Ph.D. His dedication to learning, recovery, and honoring his roots is a true inspiration.
Randy shared these powerful words with the crowd during the ceremony:
"I would like to thank all of my family, friends, teachers, doctors, contemporaries, and community members for the outpour of love and support you have all shown me! Each and every one of you here tonight have played a crucial role in my development and rehabilitation, which has helped to push and guided me through the years not only in my academic career, but in my life as well. We did it! Pidamaya!" (Thank you in Dakȟóta.)
We’re proud to celebrate one of our podcast alumni and honor this incredible achievement. Click through the photo slideshow below to see moments from this unforgettable night.
